1. Which Products Require a Prescription
The following categories of products sold on Hairsncares require a valid prescription from a Registered Medical Practitioner (RMP) before the order can be dispatched:
- Schedule H: Products containing Minoxidil (above OTC thresholds), Finasteride, Dutasteride, Ketoconazole 2% (shampoo/topical prescription forms), oral corticosteroids, systemic antifungals
- Schedule H1: Higher-risk formulations including certain systemic antiandrogens requiring enhanced prescription monitoring
- Schedule X:Controlled substances as defined under the Drugs & Cosmetics Act — not routinely part of our catalogue, but may appear in specialist referral protocols
- Products labelled "Rx Only" or "For sale by retail on the prescription of a Registered Medical Practitioner only"
ℹ️ OTC (over-the-counter) products including non-prescription Minoxidil 2% (where permitted), shampoos, serums, supplements (non-drug), and cosmetic hair care products do not require a prescription.
2. What Constitutes a Valid Prescription
A valid prescription for Rx products must meet the following requirements under Indian pharmaceutical law:
- Written or digitally issued by a Registered Medical Practitioner with valid NMC registration number
- Contains: patient name, age/date of birth, date of issue, drug name (generic or brand), dosage, duration, and prescribing doctor's signature and registration number
- Prescriptions issued via Hairsncares dermatologist teleconsultation are digitally signed and automatically linked to your account
- Prescriptions from external doctors: must be uploaded as a clear, legible photograph or scan (JPG, PNG, or PDF)
- Prescriptions must be current — typically within 6 months of issue, unless for a chronic condition with a longer valid period as specified by the prescriber
- Handwritten prescriptions must be legible; incomplete or illegible prescriptions will be rejected
3. Prescription Upload & Verification Workflow
- Add Rx product to cart. You will be prompted to upload a prescription before checkout.
- Upload a clear image or PDF of the prescription from "My Prescriptions" in your account or at checkout.
- Our licensed pharmacist team reviews the prescription within 2–4 business hours (9 AM – 9 PM IST).
- Verification outcome: Approved (order proceeds) / Rejected (reason communicated, order not dispatched).
- If you do not have a prescription, you may be offered a Hairsncares teleconsultation to assess whether the medication is appropriate for you.
✅ Prescriptions uploaded by Hairsncares platform teleconsultation are automatically verified — no manual upload required for in-platform prescriptions.
4. Doctor Consultation Recommendation
If you attempt to purchase an Rx product without a prescription, or if your prescription is rejected, we strongly recommend a dermatologist consultation through Hairsncares. Our specialists can:
- Assess whether the requested Rx product is clinically appropriate for your specific condition
- Issue a valid digital prescription where clinically indicated
- Recommend alternative OTC or dietary approaches where prescription medicines are not appropriate
5. Prescription Rejection & Order Cancellation
Your Rx order will be cancelled (full refund) in the following circumstances:
- Prescription submitted is illegible, expired, or does not contain mandatory fields
- Prescription issuer cannot be verified as a registered RMP
- Drug name, dosage, or duration on prescription does not match the product ordered
- Prescription has already been dispensed and the platform's single-use or limited-use policy applies
- Suspected fraudulent or altered prescription — may be reported to regulatory authorities
6. Data Privacy for Prescription Images
Prescription images and documents uploaded to Hairsncares are treated as sensitive personal data under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023:
- Stored in encrypted form with access limited to licensed pharmacist verifiers only
- Not shared with third parties except as required by law (regulatory audit, law enforcement with valid order)
- Retained for the legally required period (currently 2 years under pharmaceutical record-keeping requirements)
- You may request deletion of your prescription records subject to applicable retention laws via privacy@hairsncares.com

7. Schedule H / H1 / X Caution Language
⚠️ Schedule H, H1, and X medicines must be used only under medical supervision. Misuse, overuse, or self-medication of these products without professional guidance may cause serious adverse effects. Emergency care is not available through the Hairsncares platform. In case of adverse drug reaction, seek immediate in-person medical care.
All Schedule H products on our platform bear the mandatory "Rx" symbol and "Not to be sold by retail without the prescription of a Registered Medical Practitioner" label as required by Rule 65 of the Drugs & Cosmetics Rules, 1945.
